EGGLSTON OPENS NEW FACILITY FOR BRAIN INJURY AND VETERAN PROGRAMS
Open House and Ribbon Cutting Event Planned for Friday, April 23
Norfolk, VA – Eggleston will celebrate the opening of its new brain injury services and warrior bridge program location with donors, staff, and local leaders on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The new site, located at 5145 E. Virginia Beach Boulevard in Norfolk across from the Union Mission, will also serve as Eggleston’s new headquarters.
Each year, Eggleston’s Brain Injury Services (BIS) and Warrior Bridge Veteran’s programs serve nearly 200 adults with disabilities in Hampton Roads by providing intensive services, case management, and vocational rehabilitation to empower people with disabilities.
During this month’s outdoor event, attendees will meet and hear from individuals who benefit from Eggleston’s mission. Small, masked tours of the new facility will be offered before and after a ribbon cutting ceremony with special guest’s remarks at 1:00 p.m.
Eggleston’s BIS program has provided services from leased space in Virginia Beach for more than twenty years. In early 2020 the organization received notice that the property was to be sold and rezoned for new development.
“We needed to move quickly and recognized the opportunity in front of us to expand and enhance our Brain Injury Services and Warrior Bridge Veterans programs,” said CEO Paul Atkinson Sr. “The former Virginia Employment Commission building proved to be the right location and thanks to the generosity of the and a number of donors this expansion is being made possible.”
After several delays due to COVID-19, Eggleston purchased its new location in 2020 and contracted Taylor Construction to retrofit the space. The 18,000 square foot building will double the space for Eggleston’s BIS program. It also increases access for those with transportation barriers and has an enhanced layout with improved accessibility for those with disabilities. The second floor has ample meeting space and offices for administrative and program staff.
