Building for the Future: A Note from the CEO

Earlier this year Eggleston launched a capital campaign, making the renovation of it’s newest space possible. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the new flagship location in Norfolk is expanding and enhancing two programs that combined serve nearly 200 adults with disabilities in Hampton Roads each year. Formerly the Virginia Employment Commission, the new 18,000 square foot, two-story building houses Eggleston’s brain injury services and veteran services programs. The second floor provides much needed space for Eggleston staff.

In April, we celebrated our newest location with an outdoor ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house event.  On behalf of us all at Eggleston, we would like to give special thanks to Taylor Construction for sponsoring the event; and to TowenBank Executive Chairman G. Robert Aston, Jr., City of Norfolk Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander, and Congressman Bobby Scott for helping to mark this milestone event with their kind remarks.

Decades of Service to Survivors of Brain Injuries

Joann Mancuso, Brain Injury Services’ Beacon House Manager, has been selected by the Brain Injury Association of Virginia as the recipient of the 2021 Weinstock Award for her years of dedication and outstanding service to the brain injury community. She will receive her award at their annual Legacy Dinner in Richmond on June 24.

Joann Mancuso is Eggleston’s Brain Injury Services Manager and the program director for Beacon House. Ms. Mancuso holds a Master of Science in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS), and has over twenty-five years of experience working with the brain injury community in Virginia. Ms. Mancuso founded the Hampton Roads Brain Injury Support Group in 1997, and continues to facilitate meetings to help brain injury survivors and their families.
