Internship Program 2024

Eggleston’s Internship Program Provides

Hands On Career Exploration

Through the Eggleston internship program, local high school and college students were able to work as paid interns directly supporting the individuals Eggleston serves. Internships at Eggleston give students the chance to expand their ideas regarding options for pursuing higher education or a career.

Phillips, College Freshman

Phillips is a 2024 high school graduate and this was her third summer interning with Eggleston. During her internship, Phillips worked along side our Direct Support Professionals (DSP) at our Atkinson Center day program at Hearthside in Chesapeake.  She supported individuals in the program with activities, crafts and other daily duties.  She also spent time getting to know the individuals and staff to learn not only job skills but real world experiences.

Zaianna, 11th grade

Zaianna is a junior in Virginia Beach. During her internship she helped as a Human Resources assistant. Some of her duties included helping alphabetizing files in the file room, scanning personnel documents in electronic files, preparing new hire packets, and attending two hiring events with Access Portsmouth Connect Fest in August.

Our Brain Injury Services/Beacon House unit was fortunate enough to have four Occupational Therapy Assistant Students (OTAS) from Tidewater Community College (TCC) Occupational Therapy Assistant program.

Joshua and Arlandrea

Joshua and Arlandrea boosted member engagement in the weekly exercise activity by encouraging them to create their own dance moves that everyone would follow for at least a minute, making sessions more interactive and enjoyable. Joshua further supported members by developing a Community Resource Book, filled with essential information on local resources. Arlandrea complemented this project by creating a Community Activity Resource Book, guiding members to discover fun and accessible social activities in the area.

Rachel and Jorge

Rachel and Jorge played key roles in helping members update the garden. Rachel designed a gardening book to empower members to work more independently and productively in the garden, while Jorge provided materials and worked alongside members to build a garden bed and plant flowers. Their efforts brought the garden project to life and fostered a sense of accomplishment among members.
